The Age of Cinematic Television | Pierce Brosnan | TIFF 2017

You know, when I was a young man I was – I was brought up on a staple diet of westerns so here I am now. “There’s oil underneath this ground and I intend to get it out.” I do have a certain sensing and intuition towards where I’d like to go and what I want to do, the cinema is not necessarily a dying form, but it’s – people have beautiful, you know, screens in their living rooms and you can watch movies on your iPhone so it’s very accessible – and for me I had been actively looking to go back to TV for that very reason – because of Game of Thrones, House of Cards, Breaking Bad – I saw as an actor all these wonderful actors out there doing great work. In this particular case I had this beautiful gift of The Son by Philipp Meyer. To have 10 hours – a 10-hour movie like this – and to have it presented in such a cinematic way is beautiful and that’s what people want. “Here’s to family, home, and the most bountiful place on God’s green earth… God bless Texas!”
