What kinds of medical problems do radiologists diagnose most? – Portsmouth Regional Hospital

Over the last several years
the idea of precision medicine has developed, which
requires basically, each patient to be treated as
an individual and each cancer to be considered as
an individual problem. And this can be both
at the molecular level with the genetic makeup, which
requires doctors like myself to get biopsies, but it also
can require different points in the care where other
therapies are available. So in the toolbox I have,
that includes things like microwave ablation,
radiofrequency ablation, cryoablation, for
solid organ tumors, but it also includes
vascular interventions in order to embolize tumors in
venous access opportunities, to help our medical
oncologists deliver strong, chemotherapeutic drugs. My role in the hospital
relative to cancer care has been to work with medical
oncologists, and radiation therapists, and the
surgical oncologists, as kind of, a fourth pillar of
care, more options for patients to specifically address
their individual needs.
